Born on 29th March 1966 in Lagos, Ezinne Evelyn Iheoma Osuagwu is a trailblazer in Nigerian and global museology — known throughout her beloved Calabar as "Mama Museum." Her life is a testament to faith, discipline, and relentless dedication to Africa's cultural heritage.
The tenth and last-born child of Duru Felix and Ezinne Lolo Edna Adaku Okoro of Umuchima, Ihiagwa, Owerri West LGA, Imo State — Evelyn's journey from a family-filled home to the pinnacle of Nigeria's museum profession is nothing short of extraordinary. She holds a B.Ed in History Education (2.1) from the University of Jos, an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Calabar, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Museology (PGDM).
She began her career with the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) as Curator I in Calabar in 1997. Over nearly three decades, she rose through every level — serving as Curator of the Slave History Museum, the Old Residency National Museum, and the National War Museum — before being appointed Director of Museums, NCMM on 1st January 2025.
A prolific scholar, she has authored over 26 articles in international and national journals, newspapers, exhibition brochures, and textbooks. She has curated landmark exhibitions including Man as an Object of Trade, Modern Day Slavery, and Peace and Unity.

Evelyn was born into a devoted Anglican family in the Church of Nigeria. Baptised as an infant and confirmed as a communicant in 1983, her faith has been the quiet, steady force behind every career milestone. A member of the Mother's Union, Dorcas Group, and Faith Group across the Dioceses of Calabar, Owerri, and Kubwa, she has served in women's conferences, church committees, and community leadership for decades. In 2023, she was honoured as Ambassador of Christ — a title her life has long deserved.
